So you’re having a baby! Congratulations! And all the sudden you start thinking of newborn photos. Then everyone’s asking you if you’re getting newborn pictures? With who? When? Did you see this adorable Pinterest pic? And my cousin Karen is interested in newborn photography, you should totally take your baby to her!
It gets overwhelming! Quickly! Hopefully I’ll help you sort out the confusion. The main differences between newborn photographers are what you’re receiving in the end (digital images or prints), the photography style, and how experienced he/she is.
Digital Images or prints:
All of my newborn sessions are all inclusive. All inclusive means you will download the high resolution edited images, and then they’re yours to print wherever you like. Get a cake with your baby’s face on it. Seriously, whatever you want :). Other photographers offer a flat session fee to cover their time taking your baby’s pictures, and then you can buy packages with prints.
Photography Style:
You will also read the terms “posed” and “lifestyle/natural” on photographers’ websites. Posed refers to the style of photography when the sleeping baby is put into cute little positions. Lifestyle/natural refers to a swaddled/unswaddled more natural style while the baby’s on his back. PS – I am mostly a posed newborn photographer.

I am approaching my 5th year of specializing in newborn photography. I absolutely love it, and I am constantly continuing my education to deliver the best images I can. I’ve done numerous workshops on posing and safety, and I will never put your baby at risk or un-spotted for the sake of a picture.
Remember, your baby will only be a super teeny tiny newborn for about 2 weeks. It’s a very small window in your baby’s life, and you can’t get a do-over with his photos. Go to a photographer with experience and a portfolio you love, you won’t regret it one second! I have sessions designed for all budgets because I want you to have beautiful, timeless images of your baby.
