Miss newborn Hazel was referred to me by the mother of the baby on my cover page (the baby in my fuchsia flowers), and she was in at the beginning of the year 🙂 I *think* her birthday was December 30th… just in time for a nice tax return 🙂 🙂
Parents typically choose girly colors like pink, lavender, cream, so I usually know what looks good together and what doesn’t. Mom chose dark greens, plums, and browns… which is pretty fun for me! I think this was the first girl to go with darker shades. I know a small change in color schemes sounds insignificant, but it’s a major part of newborn photography. I always get everything ready the night or morning before sessions, and new colors make everything look totally different. I used a dark brown gold flecked backdrop I’ve had for over 2 years, but I never had the guts to use it (I don’t want an epic fail and ruin someone’s newborn pictures 🙂 ). The final images turned out beautifully on it!
Mom also brought a tiny knit cream bonnet and cardigan for Hazel. The set was used by Hazel’s Great Grandmother to bring all of her children home from the hospital in. It is on the images in the little yellow potato basket.
I also have had the egg basket for about 3 years, but it has not been used in forever. I recently ran across a photographer I love, and she had an identical egg basket in her newborn session… totally fell for the look! I changed my basket picture from her’s by using a brightly colored quilt instead of a backdrop blanket… but the backdrop blanket setup may be in my near future 🙂
